Jamison is a marvel in her current role at Ailey, just as she was when she was dancing. I wish the Great Performances hour about the Ailey company had included more material like this -- and had cut out of some of the odd, uninteresting, and mundane stuff that the director seemed to find important.

I loved Jamison's references to the rehearsal studio as a "sacred" place -- and the experience of dancers working with a choreographer as containing elements of the "sacred."

As an occasional observer, I've certainly felt (especially when a choreographer is setting or teaching his or her work) both privileged and awed to be in the presence of dance-makers.
