It's the Pavlova photos which are the big surprise and delight for me. A real human being, not an icon, surprisingly contemporary in look and style. The two "on tour" -- sitting on her wicker travel trunk, and in a dressing room with so m any point shoes on the floor -- are unlike any I've seen before. Thanks, Solor.

APOLLON MUSAGETE is the title under which balanchine first showed his ballet eventually called APOLLO.

the fotos of lifar (solo) and w/ spesivtseva are from his own ballet: BACCHUS ET ARIANE - see credits below.

the work showing lifar w/ nemchinova is balanchine's LUNA PARK, OR THE FREAKS, part of balanchine's work for CHARLES B. COCHRAN'S 1930 REVUE.

Bacchus et Ariane: Chor: Serge Lifar; mus: Albert Roussel; lib: Abel Hermant; scen & cos: Giorgio de Chirico. First perf: Paris, Opéra, May 22, 1931, Paris Opéra Ballet.
