Ballet in Baghdad -- any new information?

Recommended Posts

While roaming through older threads, I came upon something from 2003 devoted to the challenges faced by the School of Music and Ballet in Baghdad.

There is a wonderful report -- and set of photos -- from BBC devoted to a teacher at the School, Ghada Monther Salim.

Many Ballet Talk members will identify with Ms. Salim's statement: "I can't explain why I love ballet. It is just something within me and I can't do anything about it."

Does anyone have any information on what has happened to the School and to the possibility of the preservation of ballet in Iraq over the past few years? It would be interesting to revisit this story.

[MODERATOR BEANIE ON] posters should read the original thread for the guidelines -- well expressed by Alexandra --on what kind of discourse is appropriate for Ballet Talk, and what kind of statements should be avoided here or posted on other internet sites. [bEANIE OFF]
