NEW YORK CITY BALLET’S 2006 SPRING SEASON TO FEATURE SEVEN WORLD PREMIERE BALLETS AS PART OF THE DIAMOND PROJECT FESTIVAL

New Ballets to Be Created by Mauro Bigonzetti, Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, Jorma Elo, Eliot Feld, Peter Martins, Alexei Ratmansky, and Christopher Wheeldon

New York City Ballet will present its sixth Diamond Project festival during the 2006 spring repertory season. The season will open on Tuesday, April 25, and continue through Sunday, June 25, at the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center.

For this Diamond Project festival, seven choreographers will create new works for New York City Ballet. Two of the choreographers will be working with the Company for the first time.

In addition to the Diamond Project premieres, the 2006 spring season will include more than 30 ballets from the NYCB repertory. The complete season schedule will be announced at a later date.

The Diamond Project was conceived by NYCB Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins in 1992 as a festival for new choreography, and since then 47 works have been created by 26 different choreographers. Previous Diamond Project festivals have been held in 1992, 1994, 1997, 2000, and 2002. The name of the project was inspired by the late philanthropist Irene Diamond, who through her foundation has provided extraordinary support to NYCB for the development of new choreography.

For this Diamond Project festival new ballets will be created by Mauro Bigonzetti, Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, Jorma Elo, Eliot Feld, Peter Martins, Alexei Ratmansky, and Christopher Wheeldon. This will mark the first time that Mr. Elo and Mr. Ratmansky have created ballets for NYCB, and the first time that Mr. Bonnefoux and Mr. Feld have participated in a Diamond Project festival.

Spring season subscription tickets will go on sale on January 16 by mail, through the subscription office at 212-870-8730, and at www.nycballet.com. Single tickets will be available by mail and at www.nycballet.com beginning March 13, and at the New York State Theater box office and through Center Charge at 212-721-6500 beginning April 10.
