Solor
Are the reconstructions of Bayadere or Sleeping Beauty being performed by the Mariinksy this season? Link to comment
Helene
According to the Cal Performances website, the version of Sleeping Beauty that is going to be performed on the tour that includes Berkeley is: [T]his 1952 version—with Petipa's choreography revised by Konstantin Sergeyev and sets and costumes by Simon Virsaladze—...one of the most popular in the Kirov's storied history. http://www.calperfs.berkeley.edu/presents/...vents/kirov.php Link to comment
Mel Johnson
That description sort of reminds me of a Benny Hill routine, Benny: Opening tonight, popular price seats, £100. Narrator: That doesn't sound very popular to me! Benny: Well, I like it! Link to comment
Solor
I meant will the Kirov perform these reconstructions at all at the Mariinksy or otherwise? This season? Ever again? Link to comment
Helene
We won't know until the performances are published, either on the site, or on the touring sites. The Mariinsky website, at least in English, is updated only through October 2005, and there's no Beauty performed in the first two months. You can keep checking this link for updates: http://www.mariinsky.ru/en/playbill They're bringing Sergeyev's version to Berkeley on tour, not the reconstruction. Since the set and costume design for each version is by different people (see "repetoire" link below for details), it would seem extremely costly for them to tour two versions of Sleeping Beauty. There's no 2005-6 season repetoire list -- just the entire rep -- on the English website, without which it would be hard to tell if they were touring Sergeyev and performing the reconstruction at home. http://www.mariinsky.ru/en/ballet/spectacle Edited to add: The Sergeyev version, not the reconstruction, will be performed in Los Angeles and Detroit as well. chiapuris
Are the reconstructions of Bayadere or Sleeping Beauty being performed by the Mariinksy this season? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The only Bayadere scheduled in Sept.- Oct., 2005 at the Mariinsky, is on Sept. 30 and it is not the reconstruction, but the V. Ponomarev/V. Chabukiani 1941 revision. Link to comment
