Solor
I was looking around the Kirov web site and I looked at the page about the 1950s version of Beauty..........it said in a little sub title - "Restored with funds from Wimm-Bill-Dann after the fire at the Mariinsky Theatre workshops" what is this? I didnt know about this. Link to comment
Hans
Try checking the posts from September 3 and 8, 2003 in Links, although I don't know if any of them are still active. Some of the posts will at least have quotes. Link to comment
Treefrog
Here's a link to a contemporaneous thread: Fire at the Mariinsky destroys costumes. As Hans indicated, the fire was nearly two years ago. Link to comment
Natalia
Solor, I see that Treefrog & Hans have already given you the old links on this subject. At the time of the fire, only the opera decors that suffered damage were cited. As we now know, Sleeping Beauty/Soviet version also suffered losses. What we saw in London were, for the most part, simplified reconstructions of the originals. Now I wonder what else may have been lost? Stone Flower and Gayane have not been seen for a while in the Mariinsky rep, so I wonder if they, too, were lost? Link to comment
