Fire in the mariinsky workshops?

Recommended Posts

I was looking around the Kirov web site and I looked at the page about the 1950s version of Beauty..........it said in a little sub title -

"Restored with funds from Wimm-Bill-Dann after the fire at the Mariinsky Theatre workshops"

what is this? I didnt know about this.

Solor, I see that Treefrog & Hans have already given you the old links on this subject. At the time of the fire, only the opera decors that suffered damage were cited. As we now know, Sleeping Beauty/Soviet version also suffered losses. What we saw in London were, for the most part, simplified reconstructions of the originals.

Now I wonder what else may have been lost? Stone Flower and Gayane have not been seen for a while in the Mariinsky rep, so I wonder if they, too, were lost?
