Dale Posted May 6, 2005 Share Posted May 6, 2005 CASTING ANNOUNCED FOR FIRST TWO WEEKS OF AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE’S 2005 SPRING SEASON AT METROPOLITAN OPERA HOUSE Gillian Murphy and Maxim Beloserkovsky to Lead U.S. Revival Premiere of Sylvia, Friday Evening, June 3 Julio Bocca to Bid Farewell To Don Quixote on Wednesday Evening, May 25 Casting for the first two weeks of American Ballet Theatre’s 2005 Spring Season at the Metropolitan Opera House was announced today by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie. Following the Opening Night Spring Gala on Monday, May 23, the Company will give four performances of Don Quixote staged by Kevin McKenzie and Susan Jones beginning Tuesday evening, May 24 with Paloma Herrera and Angel Corella in the leading roles of Kitri and Basilio. Carlos Acosta will dance the role of Basilio for the first time with ABT opposite Gillian Murphy as Kitri at the Wednesday, May 25 matinee and Diana Vishneva will dance the role for the first time with ABT opposite Jose Manuel Carreño on Thursday evening, May 26. Julio Bocca’s farewell Don Quixote is scheduled for Wednesday evening, May 25 as he dances opposite Xiomara Reyes. Eight performances of an All-Star Tchaikovsky program will be presented May 27 through June 2. Veronika Part will debut in George Balanchine’s Ballet Imperial on Saturday evening, May 28, and guest artist Tamás Solymosi will make his Company debut with ABT performing the Act III pas de deux from Swan Lake opposite Ms. Part at the Wednesday, June 1 matinee. Sarah Lane and Herman Cornejo will dance Theme and Variations for the first time in New York at the same performance. In addition, the Monday evening, May 30 performance will celebrate the 10th Anniversary seasons of Principal Dancers Vladimir Malakhov and Jose Manuel Carreño. Paloma Herrera also celebrates 10 years as a Principal Dancer on the same evening. Sir Frederick Ashton’s Sylvia will be given its United States Revival Premiere on Friday evening, June 3 with Gillian Murphy as Sylvia, Maxim Beloserkovsky as Aminta, Herman Cornejo as Eros and Marcelo Gomes as Orion. Julie Kent, Gennadi Saveliev, Carlos Lopez and Sascha Radetsky will dance the leading roles at the Saturday, June 4, matinee. The Saturday evening, June 4 performance will feature Paloma Herrera, Angel Corella, Craig Salstein and Jesus Pastor. Countrywide Financial is the National Sponsor of American Ballet Theatre and Cole Haan is a Leading Benefactor. Graff Jewelers and Northern Trust are the 2005 Season Sponsors at The Metropolitan Opera House.
