Leigh's travel(bl)ogue

Recommended Posts

I have just had a wonderful time reading Leigh Witchel's blog about his trip to Argentina and urge everyone to do so too:

My Webpage :D

I am dying to go on a 'real' vacation next year (i.e. not just going home to visit family and friends) and although I have thought of Costa Rica, I am much more of an urban person. A cross between NYC and Paris sounds like just what I need!

Does anyone know if there are less humid seasons in BA? Come to think of it, are there seasons there at all?

GWTW, I was there during fall, and it was not that hot. Portenos tell me it is a humid city, but I didn't find it impossible - Puerto Iguazu is close to 700 miles closer to the equator in a sub-tropical rain forest. It was much more humid and hot. Buenos Aires' climate is somewhat analagous to Atlanta's - not a perfect match, but it gives you an idea of the temperature range. You could try during their winter, which is ballet season after all. People told me Buenos Aires is lovely in October - their spring.

For nuts and bolts advice about visiting BA, try www.frommers.com and www.fodors.com online - and the guide book I most appreciated was Time Out's Guide to Buenos Aires.

For dance information on the city (and to keep us on topic!) www.teatrocolon.org.ar or www.teatrosanmartin.com . Tango information is far more diverse, therefore harder to come by! The Colon puts up its season at the very end of December - that is their summer and the theater is on a reduced schedule until March.
