Paquita Variation/Often #1

[THE ATTACHMENTS MIGHT BE REMOVED - AND MIGHT ONE DAY RE-APPEAR HERE OR ELSEWHERE ON BT WATERMARKED TO PREVENT UNAUTHORIZED DOWNLOADING]

in the new to nyc additon to the repertory of LES BALLETS TROCKADERO DE MONTE CARLO - "the underwater scene from THE LITTLE HUMPBACKED HORSE" - the after-Gorsky & Petipa version mounted for the co. by elena kunikova, there comes a variation for the "queen of the underwater" that rings a bell with those familiar with recent kirov ballet stagings of the grand pas classique from PAQUITA. the variation in question is danced by alla sizova in the 1978(?) bbc telecast and by irina zelonkina in the later performance filmed in japan in the late '80s(?) - nowadays available on cassette or disc called 'kirov classics'

since the trock's production also uses the rarely heard pugni music - not the later pastiche by shedrin - if the score here is indeed all-pugni as noted by the program copy, one can now see/say that we have another identity for the grab-bag of music that has become familiar in 'minkus's' PAQUITA score.

apropos the HUMPBACKED HORSE connection let me post three postcards of groupings from the early 20th c. the first shows LITTLE HUMPBACKED HORSE; the second two show scenes from the minkus work GOLDFISH, also famous for it's underwater scene.
