NEW YORK PREMIERE OF DOMINIC WALSH’S ALCHEMY AND WORLD PREMIERE BY STEPHEN MILLS TO HIGHLIGHT ABT STUDIO COMPANY PERFORMANCES AT NYU'S SKIRBALL CENTER, DECEMBER 3-4

11/8/2004 - American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company will present three performances at New York University’s Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, December 3 at 8 P.M. and December 4 at 2 P.M. and 8 P.M. The program will include the New York Premiere of Dominic Walsh’s Alchemy and the World Premiere of a new ballet from Ballet Austin’s Stephen Mills, as well as Anton Dolin’s Variations for Four and Arthur Saint-Leon’s La Vivandiere.

Dominic Walsh’s Alchemy is a work for six dancers featuring costumes by Fabio Toblini and lighting by Brian Sciarra. A former Principal dancer with Houston Ballet, Walsh is currently the director of the Dominic Walsh Dance Theater in Houston. Alchemy, his first work for the ABT Studio Company, will be accompanied live by the string quartet Two Star Symphony performing their original composition Goblin Attack. Alchemy received its World Premiere by the ABT Studio Company on October 29, 2004 at the Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine.

The ABT Studio Company’s program will also feature a World Premiere from choreographer Stephen Mills, set to Tirol Concerto for Piano and Orchestra by Philip Glass. A former dancer with Harkness Ballet, American Dance Machine, Cincinnati Ballet and Indianapolis Ballet Theater, Mills currently serves as Artistic Director for Ballet Austin. He has created more than forty works for companies in the United States and abroad, including the Washington and Atlanta Ballets and Cuballet in Havana, Cuba. The World Premiere of Mills’ new work marks his debut choreographing for the ABT Studio Company.

Performances at the Skirball Center will also include Anton Dolin’s Variations for Four, set to music by Margaret Keogh, and Arthur Saint-Leon’s La Vivandiere, a pas de six set to music by Cesare Pugni.

The ABT Studio Company was among the first dance troupes to perform at The Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University, an 879-seat proscenium theater which opened in October 2003. The Skirball Center is located at 566 LaGuardia Place at Washington Square South in New York City.

Tickets for the ABT Studio Company at the Skirball Center are $32 and are available by calling 212-992-8484 or at www.skirballcenter.nyu.edu.

The ABT Studio Company is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
