Kirov to dance 'Corsaire' in DC, July 2005!

According to this morning's Washington Post, the Kirov will make a second appearance at the Kennedy Center, during the 2004/05 season. Already scheduled to dance Ratmansky's modern 'Cinderella' in January '05, the troupe will now (thankfully) get to perform the sort of ballet in which it excels-- a truly classical work, 'Le Corsaire,' in July '05. This is a 'replacement' for the cancelled run by Dance Theater of Harlem.

I'm sure that Ari or someone else will provide a connection to the full article, in our 'Links' forum...but I thought that this would make a good discussion topic here. While I'm sorry that DTH won't be coming...I am elated about seeing my beloved Kirov twice in one season. The only downer is that, now, the Kirov's DC run of 'Corsaire' may conflict with the Bolshoi's run at the Met. Eastern-USA fans of both great companies might have to choose between a Corsaire with Vishnyova & a Pharaoh's Daughter with Zakharova, on the same night...gulp!

ENGAGEMENT REPLACES DANCE THEATRE OF HARLEM IN THE 2004-2005 BALLET SERIES

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, announced today that the Kirov Ballet, the famed company from St. Petersburg, Russia, will perform their staging of the evening-length ballet Le Corsaire, July 5-10, 2005 in the Opera House. The engagement, the second for the company in the 2004-2005 Kennedy Center Ballet Season, is a replacement for the now-cancelled January 2005 appearance of Dance Theatre of Harlem.

Le Corsaire is part of the Center’s ten-year collaboration with the Kirov Ballet. The ballet in three acts with prologue and epilogue is the 1987 Pytor Gusev choreographed version (after Marius Petipa) with music by Adolphe Adam, Cesare Pugni, Leo Delibes, Riccardo Drigo, and Pavel Oldenburgsky. As previously announced, the company will also present their glorious new production of Cinderella, choreographed by Alexey Ratmansky with music by Sergei Prokofiev, December 8-12, 2004, in the Opera House.

Subscriptions for the Ballet Series are now available. Individual tickets for the July engagement of the Kirov Ballet go on sale April 11, 2005.

May I ask where you found out about Zakharova's performance in Pharoah's Daughter on the East Coast next year? I would like to get more information. Thanks.
