Cygnet
Does anyone know of a good recording of Ravel's "La Valse?" Thanks! Link to comment
MakarovaFan
Cygnet, My favorite La Valse is performed by the Montreal Symphony Orchestra conducted by Charles Dutoit. Dutoit is a renowned interpreter of Ravel and this recording is virtuosic, lush, dramatic and atmospheric. I've attached a link to CD on Tower Records website: http://www.towerrecords.com/product.aspx?pfid=1710924 Link to comment
doug
Thanks, MakarovaFan. I second your recommendation. Dutoit and Montreal have brilliant recordings of Impressionist composers and also of Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky scores. I always check first to see if they have put out a recording of any particular ballet music I am interested in hearing. Link to comment
Mel Johnson
If you want a real aural kick, try the piano version, played by Walter Gieseking or Alicia deLarrocha. It's even more hair-raising than the orchestral version! :speechless: Link to comment
MakarovaFan
doug, Have you heard Dutoit's superb recordings with the MSO of Stravinsky's Firebird and Petrouchka? Link to comment
