Calliope
Peter Martins' salary listed in the NY Daily News as $579,000 a year in an article about other NYers salaries. AT adding the link: How Much Does He Make? Scroll down for Culture Vultures. Link to comment
Michael
Remember that that would probably not include the fees one receives as commissions for choreographing specific works, or for performances of works to which one owns the copyright. Actually, this is not an outrageous salary at all by NY Standards. Senior associates at Wall Street law firms make as much. Partners at the big ones make five to eight times that amount. vagansmom
I agree that, for NYC, this is not a very large salary for someone at the helm of one of the world's foremost ballet institutions. In fact, it shows up the disparity between salaries for the arts and salaries for other professionals. Link to comment
Leigh Witchel
He's responsible as director and fundraiser-in-chief for a company with a 40+million dollar budget (is it more?) and well over 100 employees. Sure, nice work if you can get it, and I recall not long ago he was making only 450K, but still, I don't think it's out of proportion as long as he's bringing in the funding to cover it.
