Ari, the older mimes -- Ryberg as Beppo and Simone as Veronica -- were the best, by far, at the Wednesday performance. It's too bad that they were not cast in the other Napoli performances.

The guy who mimed the second vendor (Beppo's rival...don't recall the character's name) was a pale non-entity on Wednesday night, compared to Ryberg's Beppo. The guy not only acted weakly but his hair and make-up were pale...very UN-Neapolitan!

Ryberg played Beppo in the 1980s videotaped program, by the way.

I hate to think of what this production will be like when the few remaining 'vets' leave the RDB roster. I suppose that we are lucky to be seeing any of them here. I know that Simone is in at least one of the weekend casts of 'Sylphide' and in the Napoli Act III on Sat night. I don't recall if Ryberg is cast in anything this weekend....maybe the Sat night Napoli III?
