Dale Posted January 14, 2004 Author Share Posted January 14, 2004 Somogyi dancng the lead in Tschaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 2 is pretty exciting. On the other hand, I find Kistler's appearance as the Siren in Prodigal Son a little worrying. Before I get flamed, Kistler was one of my absolutely favorite dancers. She was a golden princess and I hold her in great esteem. However, it is clear that she has become quite limited physically and it would probably best for her and the choreography would that she select her roles more carefully. Watching the past two years (which includes her Terpsichore at Caramoor this summer), I don't know how she is going to dance the Siren when she has lost so much movement in her legs. I wish she would look to Nichols a bit more in this regard. Nichols seems to understand that even if the heart and mind are willing, the body night not and she choses her roles very carefully. There are still roles - new roles - in Balanchine works Kistler could dance well, Pavane for example, while keeping an eye on what is possible for her now physically. Link to comment
