Dancing Henry Five

Recommended Posts

David Gordon's new piece, Dancing Henry Five, is a powerful reduction of the Shakespeare play set to William Walton's music. Gordon finds a way using narration, brief fragments of Shakespeare's text and dance to create a powerful but subtle statement about war, heroism, and patriotism. The stage pictures are unusually beautiful and he creates battle scenes using only six or seven dancers. Tadjej Brdnik, who also dances with Graham, is a terrific Henry. He's both regal and wily. There are four more performances this Thurs - Sun at Danspace.
