Ali Pourfarrokh, artistic director with NYC Ballet's Nilas Martins and Manhasset's Eliane Munier, formerly with the San Francisco Ballet.

Sugar plums, candy canes and snowflakes abound as Long Island's own professional dance company, the Eglevsky Ballet, celebrates its 42nd anniversary with a spectacular production of the perennial holiday favorite, choreographed by the company's artistic director, Ali Pourfarrokh.

The internationally-renowned dancer Nilas Martins heads the professional company of 25 dancers. Martins, who will dance the leading role of The Cavalier, is a principal dancer of the New York City Ballet. A native of Denmark, Martins has a broad repertory with the City Ballet and has appeared on PBS' Live from Lincoln Center and Dance in America. He also performed in the 1993 film version of George Balanchine's Nutcracker. Eliane Munier, a native of Manhasset who formerly was a dancer with the San Francisco Ballet, dances Sugar Plum Fairy, the leading woman's role.

The Eglevsky Ballet's The Nutcracker company is augmented by a children's cast of 60, consisting of some of Long Island's most talented young dancers.
