Mel Johnson Posted November 8, 2003 Share Posted November 8, 2003 The following fault wasn’t the Kirov’s: Prince Desiré’s journey and penetration into Aurora’s slumbering realm lacked adventure and drama because it was too difficult to install the traveling Panorama scene at the Met. History repeats itself. In the original production, the great entr'acte that Tchaikovsky had written for Leopold Auer (father of Hollywood screwball comic Mischa Auer) was cut in order to shorten the ballet, then it was found that the Panorama backdrop wouldn't scroll across the stage properly and they had to make big cuts and do some onstage fixes for THAT scene!
