Looking for a new director

Thanks to the all encompassing Links forum's coverage, I noted this article by Jerry Stein in the Cinncinati Post Ballet Director Resigns

The Cincinnati Ballet's executive director Alan R. Hills resigned today after two years with the company.

Although Hills will be leaving the arts organization effective Sept. 30, he will continue on as consultant through Dec. 19.

Hills, who has extensive background in arts administration, came to Cincinnati from Biloxi, Miss., where he was business manager for Global Entertainment Group, Inc. Global managed Irish step-dancer Michael Flatley's tours.

Jeff Syroney, spokesman for the company, said Hills is leaving for a position in the for-profit entertainment sector...

According to the article, Mr. Hills did help the ballet company during his brief stay. Apparently their current development director is acting in the interim, as they search for a new director.

Just wondered if there might be any Cincinnati fans on the board who might have some comments or thoughts on this and the effects there might be on the company?

    Jerry Stein's article pretty well tells the story. Alan Hills did a great job with the Cincinnati Ballet while he was here. However, great people get great salaries and Alan apparently has several offers which the Cincinnati Ballet could not match given the current financial problems all the arts are seeing.

    He did some very valuable things for the company during his tenure:

    1.) He did a thorough revision of the staff hiring very talented marketing, development,    
    finance, and production managers.

    2.) He lead the installation of the Cappiolin (sp?) computerized ticketing, development, and financial management system that ties together essentially all the business functions in one giant database.

    3.) He arranged a profitable tour of Nutcracker to Anchorage, Alaska and Detroit both last year and this year. Before his arrival, the comapny was doing almost no touring.

    If anyone is looking for a talented executive manager, he would be great, but you better have deep pockets.

Thanks for the valuable insights into the backstory here.  It's an old story, too, about the not-for-profit world vs. the for-profit entertainment market.  Like the old (1974?) song in NYC, "We can't live on love alone at City Center!" :thumbsup:

I think it's Paciolan.
