Subtle Dancers

Swanilda

Recommended Posts

Dancers who dance Tudor well are dancers who understand the meaning of subtlety :) Artistry depends on many things, but very importantly the ability to dance the role as conceived by the choreographer. If an "in your face" approach is called for, then it would be valid. Otherwise, I don't think so! But there are many roles which can be danced with a great deal of artistry and yet not be very subtle ;)

Likewise, dancers who are good at the Ashton repertoire understand subtlety, when to use it, and when not to use it. I've seen lots of dancers do the Tango from "Façade" and come away with a lukewarm impression, because they don't understand when to ease off and when to let the craziness loose!
