  1. Thank you @YouOverThereand to your friend too! All very useful information especially that trains require credit card and vending machine (I'm used to buying before boarding, happily).
  2. Dani Rowe was born in 1982. An interview in an Australian Sunday newspaper from February 2009 says he is 23 and girlfriend Dani Rowe 26. Extrapolation gives 37 and 40 as their current ages.
  3. Ooh! Tybalt I can totally see him as. The last time he danced as a guest with AusBallet it was as Franz in Coppélia. Yes, with a new AD come many new things and ways of doing things...as you probably know, David Hallberg started as AusBallet AD during the Melbourne lockdown covid times, and as the company was almost completely unable to perform for nearly two years, we didn't see many changes. They are now starting to filter through and, as always, some are more popular with audiences than others, and I do hear he does a lot of coaching and teaching which is very much liked and appreciated by the dancers.
  4. Yes, I doubt I'll see Luke Ingham as Romeo. Not to forget that probably Miss Rojo has her own ideas on casting.
  5. That's so kind @pherank but the weekend of the 23rd I will be in Denver for Colorado Ballet principal Yosvani Ramos' retirement - the reason for coming to the US 🩰 - it will also be 10 years less one day since his final performance with AusBallet, the last time I saw him dance in person. I will certainly check Orbitz though. I'm so out of touch with hotel booking sites these days!
  6. Thanks again @pherank, I'll check out the websites and choose something that appeals. I do love ballet communities: so kind and helpful!
  7. @California THANK you!! That is so much helpful and useful information - I'm so glad I poked my head above the parapet! I forgot Ms Benton was going in Cinderella; I somehow mixed her dates up. Yos is definitely doing Prodigal Son (ick Balanchine - it's okay I know that in the US mine is not a popular opinion 😂). Happily, I don't have a choice about seating, my ticket is a gift. The last time I saw him dance live was 24 April 2013 in Sydney, so almost exactly 10 years. Sadly I am not quite old enough to qualify for senior rates, and AAA etc is unavailable to me, but I'll keep looking. I'm sad for the dancers they don't generally do flowers: I was brought up that for special occasions (first nights, last nights, retirements, principal rôle débuts) flowers are de rigueur.
  8. Thank you @pherank - I know nothing about SF and what there is to see, so your mention of art museums has piqued my interest. The hop on hop off bus sounds like exactly what I want. I won't be using Uber or Lyft - strictly feet, bus, and possibly cable car for my budget (after all it's not cheap to fly from Australia 😂). The Inn at the Opera sounds great from the convenience point, but again, cost comes in to it - for the time I will be there it's showing as over $900 US for three nights, which is over $1,300 Australian. When I go to Sydney for ballet, I always stay 4-5 star and never pay over $200/night Australian, so those prices look really expensive to me. In case anyone's wondering, I'm far too old to spend 14 hours in economy across the Pacific so have splashed out on business class for the 14-hour flight.
  9. Could I please request an update on clean, safe, comfortable and reasonably priced accommodation for an Australian wanting to spend a couple of days in SF en route home from Denver? Also what to see or do in two days, travelling on foot and by public transport, no I don't care about Fisherman's Wharf as I'm allergic!! It will be late April 2023 and I would also appreciate any seating area recommendations for Romeo and Juliet as I couldn't possibly not go to ballet that's on where I am ☺️
  10. I am coming (from Australia) to Denver for Yosvani Ramos and Dana Benton's retirement show on Sunday 23 April, 2023. I would be much obliged for hints and tips on: - where to stay that is nice, safe, clean, and less than US$200/night, oh and it should be either walking distance from the Ellie or easily accessible by public transport - a good florist (I mean, doesn't every dancer deserve flowers?) - things to do in Denver that are accessible by walking or public transport - what is the best (safe, reasonably priced) way to get from the airport to my hotel Thanks in advance!
  11. It was the most beautiful night, @naomikage. Senior Artist of seven years, all but one of the current principals leapfrogged her, and when she retired she had her very long hair cut and donated it for a wig for an ill child. She was partnered by Chris Rodgers-Wilson, and the atmosphere on stage spread to the audience - joyous but a little sad at the same time.
  12. Hi altongrimes, she is dancing Petit's Carmen with Royal New Zealand Ballet, then participating in a "gala des étoiles" in Luxembourg in May. No further info to hand, sorry.
  13. They didn't bring it back because that tour was with the indigenous Australian company Bangarra Dance Theatre, and so it was a double bill: Australian Ballet in Les Presages and Bangarra in Rites. The Murphy Swan Lake has just had 3 performances in Tokyo, followed this weekend by the Murphy Nutcracker. I'd be interested in a Japanese reaction to these. Also, there is now a DVD of the Murphy Swan Lake: Australian Ballet Shop - sadly the photos on the jacket are of Adam Bull and Amber Scott, not the dancers performing (Robert Curran and Madeleine Eastoe).
  14. I would also like to defend this Swan Lake. No, it's not traditional, but yes, the dancing is excellent, the storyline credible, and on the available DVD (recorded live at the Sydney Opera House in April 2006) Madeleine Eastoe (seen in the film Mao's Last Dancer as "Lori") is a superb Odette, and Robert Curran a wonderful Prince. The costumes, particularly Odette's wedding dress and the swans' costumes, are amazing, as is the fantastic set for the lakeside scenes. My mum can't stand Graeme Murphy's work (she says so much of it is "unnecessary" i.e. too sexy), but she liked this, although she said she still prefers a traditional Swan Lake. I would say if you are interested in seeing classical ballet and in opening your mind to a new interpretation, go for it. For example, I recently saw Royal New Zealand Ballet in Christopher Hampson's Romeo and Juliet and didn't like it. But I saw it twice just to see if it was the dancers not the production I didn't like There is also a DVD available from The Australian Ballet (Australian Ballet Shop - scroll down) called On the Wings of a Swan which is a documentary about the creation of the ballet and The Australian Ballet's tour of the UK with the production in 2005.
