  1. The other night in my ballet class, my teacher mentioned a movie with Loretta Young in it where she plays a ballet student. Unfortunately my teacher could not remember the name of this movie or the other actors in it. Has anyone heard of such a movie? If so, does anyone know what the title might be? Thank you!
  2. This topic should be made a "sticky". I have referred to it many times when purchasing movies since finding this on the boards. All great references. Can't remember if anyone mentioned "Can Can" The ballet is lousy, but all of the other dances and the rest of the movie is great. Shirley MacLaine, Frank Sinatra, Maurice Chevalier and Louis Jourdan are in this movie.
  3. Has anyone ever heard of Lucretia Serban? She was a Romanian ballet dancer. The reason I'm asking is I recently took a class from her and am interested in her bio, but cannot find anything. It was a drop-in class in Las Vegas and it was a good class, small, and very interesting. Thank you.
  4. Perhaps you could show your Dean how a dancer en pointe can defy the laws of gravity  Considering all your aged handicaps Funny Face, I'm impressed by how well you're doing, especially in subjects such as physics.
  5. That's most likely why the movie turned out so well. It also said that it was during the shooting of this film that Ricky first met Lucy
  6. The only place I could find it on video was Amazon, there is only one copy and it's used, and the Seller wants $99.00 for it! So, I put in a request for it on half.com, but I'm not holding my breath. It does appear to be shown on TV, but we don't get any of the fancy channels.
  7. Thanks for the tip on that episode. I'll look for it. I have never heard of it, but it sounds great. Do you know what year it was produced? Watching the ballet episode, makes you realize how talented Lucy was because it takes more talent to do what she did than to actually do it correctly!
  8. Thank you all this entertainment! I loved the reply about the "stinking crossbows". It's too bad this group can't get on a stand-up comedy show, you're much more amusing than anyone currently on t.v.
  9. Has anyone seen the episode of "I Love Lucy" where she wants to fill in for a ballet dancer in one of Ricky's night club acts? If you get a chance to view this, please do so. I have not laughed so hard in a long time. There is not much in the way of technical dancing, but it is a wonderful piece of work by a great entertainer.
  10. They could always do a "dream scene" where Carrie would be fantasizing about dancing with M.B., and take it from there. That way the technical aspect would not be so important as the overall artistic picture. :huepfen:
  11. I have two videos which I have found educational and helpful, I found them at Amazon, they are the Balanchine Essays, one is arabesque and one is port de bras and epqulement. Personally, I found the arabesque more helpful. However, please keep in mind these videos teach the Balanchine method, which is not what all classes teach. Although, even though it was the Balanchine method, and my teacher is Russian, I sitll found these videos helpful. Hope this helps. One other thing, if you're simply looking for a ballet video for a workout, check out the New York Ballet workout video. It is great for simply exercising.
