  1. One dancer who actually has her own very lovely perfume is Carla Fracci (called Carla Fracci Perfume). My daughter was actually a promotion model for it last fall---all dressed up in her romantic tutu.
  2. A kinder, but fairly accurate review: http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/200...s/23272483.html
  3. I just saw the performance here in Las Vegas on Wednesday. The group performed "Sleeping Beauty-Pas de Deux", "Pas de Quatre", "Paquita", then "Carmen Suite". I have to admit I was looking forward to much better than I saw. The whole first half of the program seemed mostly devoid of personality, with much trouble on stage with slips, falls, and poorly executed double pirouettes. (Both boys and girls!) In "Paquita", the whole corps had problems with holding arabesques (both times). I felt as if I was watching a student performance in which the dancers were worrying so much about technique that they forgot everything else. The second half which consisted of "Carmen Suite", got better. I liked the choreography and the dancers seemed to come more alive. I disliked the costuming simply because it looked like most of the dancers were wearing very modern type styles but the toreador was in a very classical looking costume. I also felt the dancer portraying "fate" and the "bull" was miscast. This should have been a powerful performance, but the dancer was just too thin, waiflike and uncommited to make a believable "bull". It really shocked me when at the end of the performances, (as on another thread: to Stand or Not to Stand) that at this particular performance there were so many audience members standing and shouting "Bravo!" when it was -to me- somewhat mediocre. Of course, as I overheard one audience member say, "They are Russian, so they MUST be very good!"
  4. Since moving to Las Vegas with my DD, I have seen a few performances by NBT. There are some very excellent dancers there with great stage presence, along with a few newcomers who should be able to go far in this company. I hesitate to use names of the dancers since my DD and I have become good friends with many of them and would hate to play favorites..... but... The tribute to Richard Rogers-great fun to watch and a good way to really see some of the different personalities of the dancers. Cinderella with Tess Hooley in the lead and choreographed by Peter Anastos. I enjoyed the performers, esp. Jesus Sandofiel and John Surdick as the step-sisters, although not the sets too much...and of course I loved the winter corps as it was my DD's first performance with the co. Nutcracker for two performances-Heather Harr as Arabian always enthralls the audience with her wonderful flexibility. Zeb Nole and Baris Erhan are always fun to watch and Yoo Mi Lee is very elegant. The last performance of the season being the best one I saw with Boyko Loutchev dancing 3 roles (toy soldier, snow king with partner Eun Ji Ha, and Russian) and keeping up the energy throughout. The snow and esp. the flower corps with Bruce Steivel's choreography was very good. Anytime these corps roles actually get me to pay attention and not put me in a coma has got to be a good sign! My favorite quality of NBT is the ability of the company to have so many different bodies and personalities, yet still be able to work together (esp in corps) as a cohesive whole. Each dancer brings a unique perspective to his or her roles. I sometimes think that I should watch every performance because each one is slightly different according to which dancers are performing for that show. I know a couple of dancers also perform in shows in LV, but they are few and I believe need special permission from the AD in order to do this. Some of the dancers do audition for commercials, shows, movies, modeling, etc. during their off times and this seems to be ok.
  5. For a very short review of the Nutcracker: http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/200...g/22856658.html
  6. I hope that the company makes it. I got a chance to see some of the company members while they were in SF auditioning for dancers. Although I didn't get to see them dance, the sheer physical beauty of the ones I saw was astounding. I would pay to see some of those wonderful faces and bodies on stage just posing!
  7. Great idea, Ronny! I would never have thought of that. I'm going to bring it up with the co. board here. Although we do enough ticket sales to survive in the black, we get so little funding from the public and businesses, this just might make a big difference. The more viewers of the videos, the more interest in the live performances.
  8. Being Latvian and Lithuanian myself, I was happy to read about the Latvian ballet. And yes, there is a great interest amongst us Balts (and always has been) re: ballet, opera, folk dance and art-esp. the old folk songs and dances of the regions. I hop that some of these co. get out to CA some day so that I can show my daughter from wenst(?) she comes.
  9. Just wanted to let you know that I just received the video "The Royal Ballet 1959/60" featuring Margot Fonteyn in Swan Lake Act II, The Firebird, which-surprise!-has my daughter's ballet director and teacher in it, and Ondine. I went to Amazon.com's auction site and did a pre-bid for it since they did not have it at the time. and was very surprised that I got it this quickly. It only cost me $25.00 including the shipping and handling fee! So now even though it's only 8 am I'm going to go enjoy it while my daughter is still asleep (spring break).
  10. Thanks everyone for the info. Now I just need to search every video supplier in the Western and Eastern Hemisphere . If anybody has any luck before I do, please post. (As will I, if I find it.)
  11. Does anybody know if it is possible to get a video of Margot Fonteyn in Ondine? Even though I saw an excerpt from her biography on one of the PBS stations, I have yet to find any info on this. Please help as she is my daughter's idol and I would love to surprise her with this.
