NEW YORK CITY BALLET ANNOUNCES 2013 SPRING GALA PROGRAM AND DATE CHANGE

New York City Ballet today announced that its 2013 Spring Gala will take place on Wednesday, May 8 at 7 p.m. at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. The gala had been previously scheduled for Thursday, May 9.

Highlighting the evening will be two works by choreographer Christopher Wheeldon. The first will be a re-working of Soiree Musicale, set to Samuel Barber’s Souvenirs, which Wheeldon originally created for the School of American Ballet Workshop performance in 1998. For the New York City Ballet premiere, Soiree Musicale will feature revised choreography by Wheeldon. The second Wheeldon work will be the world premiere of a new pas de deux set to Leonard Bernstein’s Sonata for Clarinet and Piano.

The gala evening will also celebrate the 25th Anniversary of New York City Ballet’s 1988 American Music Festival and will feature highlights from the Company’s extraordinary repertory of American music and dance, including excerpts from signature works by George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins set to the music of Leonard Bernstein, Philip Glass, George Gershwin, and John Philip Sousa.

The chairmen for the 2013 Spring Gala Evening are Randy and Jay Fishman, Whitney and Clarke Murphy, and Betsy and Robert Pitts, and the evening is sponsored by Vacheron Constantin. Benefit-priced tickets for the gala evening, which include the performance, a pre-performance reception, and a black-tie supper ball following the performance, are available through the NYCB Special Events Office at 212-870-5585. Tickets to the performance only start at $29 and are available at the David H. Koch Theater box office, online at nycballet.com, or by calling 212-496- 0600.
